Lanvin’s story began in 1889, when the 22-year-old Jeanne Lanvin opened a millinery workshop at 16 Rue Boissy d’Anglas in Paris.

Her daughter Marguerite, born in 1897, became both a profound personal influence and an important creative inspiration. Clothes Jeanne designed for her daughter attracted the attention of other mothers, helping the Maison expand beyond hats.

Lanvin subsequently developed children’s clothing, womenswear and an increasingly complete decorative and fashion universe.

The relationship between mother and daughter became one of the Maison’s enduring symbols — a reminder that Lanvin’s identity developed from something unusually personal rather than from a single fashion category.
