The Fondation Azzedine Alaïa is a unique cultural institution located in the heart of the Marais in Paris, dedicated to preserving and celebrating the legacy of one of fashion’s greatest 20th-century couturiers. Founded to safeguard the vast collections assembled by Azzedine Alaïa over a lifetime — encompassing couture garments, design objects, photographs, sketches and personal archives — the foundation continues his passion for form, discipline and the art of making clothes.
Housed in the historic buildings where Alaïa lived, worked and created, this Paris landmark offers thoughtfully curated exhibitions that illuminate both his own work and the rich history of fashion. Its mission extends beyond mere display: the foundation promotes education, artistic exchange and research — drawing connections between fashion, art and material culture, just as Alaïa himself did throughout his career.
Exhibitions at the foundation have included major thematic showcases such as “Azzedine Alaïa. De silence sculpté”, honoring his pivotal Summer-Autumn 2003 collection under a grand glass roof, and dynamic pairings with other style giants. From December 15, 2025 to May 24, 2026, the foundation is presenting “Azzedine Alaïa and Christian Dior, Two Masters of Haute Couture”, a rare dialogue between two pillars of Parisian couture, with pieces on display alongside a broader exploration of their intersecting aesthetics.
Set amidst the cobblestone streets of the Marais near landmarks such as Musée Carnavalet, the foundation combines exhibition galleries with a bookstore, café and courtyard spaces — offering visitors a realm where couture, culture, and Parisian history converge. Its approach is both scholarly and sensory, inviting fashion lovers, designers, and curious travelers alike to engage deeply with the material and intellectual richness of couture.
Nestled in the historic Marais, the Fondation Azzedine Alaïa sits near cultural icons such as Place des Vosges, the Musée Picasso, and Hôtel de Sully, placing couture heritage at the heart of one of Paris’s most refined and creative districts.
